Development of a New High Resolution Reflectron Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer
نویسنده
چکیده
ime-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer is being developed since Wiley & McLaren has presented this experimental technique of measuring the mass of low energy ions and devised the first spectrometer back in 1955 [1]. However, the instrumentation of time-of-fight mass spectrometry has been under continuous progress by adapting with the technological advancements in the other fields of science, e.g. in vacuum science, fast switching of DC high voltage, lasers, high speed data acquisition electronics, high gain sophisticated ion detectors etc. In fact, advances in the instrumentation of time-of-flight mass spectrometry has recently taken a leap forward in view of its new found applications in the mass sampling of large molecular and ionic species e.g. proteins, peptides, polymers and atomic clusters etc [2-6]. The accuracy of mass determination and the capacity of handling a wide variety of unknown masses together from a complex sample like atomic clusters, bio-molecules, polymers etc. require improved machine that has high resolution and dynamic range which are in fact the functions of specific design parameters. Nevertheless, the development of a state-of-theart machine still remains a challenge specially, for devising a high mass range spectrometer with large dynamic capacity.

We report on the design and testing of a compact impact-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer for analysis of cosmic dust, suitable for use on deep space missions. The instrument, Dustbuster, incorporates a large target area with a reflectron, simultaneously optimizing mass resolution, particle detection, and ion collection. Dust particles hit the 65-cm target plate and are partially ioni...

The development of a new high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS) is reported. The high-resolution capabilities of this instrument allow the direct separation of most ions from inorganic and organic species at the same nominal m/z, the quantification of several types of organic fragments (CxHy, CxHyOz, CxHyNp, CxHyOzNp), and the direct identification of organic nitr...
متن کاملAn ion trap storage/time-of-flight mass spectrometer
An ion trap/time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer combination has been developed in order to combine the storage capabilities of an ion trap with the speed and resolution of a time-of-flight device. The ion trap is an rf quadrupole trap which operates in the total storage mode, i.e., with the dc voltage=0 on the end caps and rf voltage on the ring electrode. The trap has an ion storage time of...

A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS) developed in our laboratory at Isfahan University of Technology is described here. The TOF-MS instrument uses laser as the ionization source which provides an opportunity to investigate the ions formed in laser ablation or desorption. The TOF-MS has an ionization chamber containing an accelerator and an ion lens to focus the ions into a one meter line...
